The Holy Name Youth Group provides an opportunity for children aged 8-17 to come together to learn more about their faith and to interact with other young Catholics. Youth Group begins with 45 minutes of high-quality Catechesis, tailored to age and grade, before children and youth leaders head to the church to attend Mass together. Afterwards, there are dinner and games before dismissal at 8:45pm.
Although the after-Mass Youth Group program only runs on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, Catechesis classes occur weekly. Classes are held from 5:30pm-6:15pm every Friday in term time and are offered in 3 streams; Yrs 3-5, Yrs 6-8 and Yrs 9-12.
On the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, Catechesis is followed by Youth Group. Children attend Mass with the leaders at 6.30pm before heading to the Ellengowan Hall for dinner, where they are split into 3 streams for the remainder of the Youth Group night. These streams are Yrs 3-5, Yrs 6-8 and Yrs 9-12, all with their own separate spaces and youth group leaders. In these groups, children have the opportunity to bond with their peers and to engage in fun activities that are suited to their age and interests.
The Holy Name Youth Group also offers Activity Days in the school holidays. These days are characterised by a combination of fun activities, such as bowling or laser tag, and Faith formation such as talks and meditations which are facilitated by youth leaders, guest speakers and/or visiting religious/clergy.
If you are a new or existing Holy Name parishioner and wish to send your children to Youth Group, please get in contact with Bianca Fisher or Fr Thomas Sofatzis to request a registration form. Printed forms can also be found in the church.
Please be aware that it is strongly recommended that your child attends both Catechesis and the after-Mass Youth Group program. However, for parents who wish to enrol their children in either Youth Group or Catechesis only, this can be arranged. Please get in touch with Bianca Fisher or Fr Thomas Sofatzis for enrolments.
Children must be 8 in order to join Youth Group. Your child is welcome to join Youth Group as soon as they turn 8.
The Holy Name Youth Group first and foremost serves children of Holy Name parishioners. Children who are not regular parishioners must at a minimum attend the 6.30pm Friday Masses on Youth Group nights with the other children. Please contact Fr Sofatzis before enrolling your child if this situation applies to you.
Catechesis starts at 5:30pm sharp and finishes at 6:15pm. There are four classes split into grade levels, with each class containing a Catechist and an assistant. Please ensure you arrive promptly so as to avoid disrupting the classes. We are very pleased to be able to offer these classes to your children and please let us know if you have any further questions.
Yes. Children of Holy Name parishioners may attend any number of Activity Days, provided that the relevant permission forms are completed.
